Specific Learning Disorder (SLD)

Individuals who experience Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) may face challenges in learning capacities. This can affect how people take in information, understand and/or express and deliver information. The most common forms of learning difficulties are found in reading, spelling, spoken language and mathematics. SLD assessments can help identify gaps in learning and measure a child's academic ability.

WPS can conduct SLD assessments to rule out any potential intellectual disabilities such as the following:

  • Dysgraphia

  • Dyslexia

  • Dyscalculia

Some signs of SLD are:

  • Delays in child skill development around language, attention and learning

  • Students who are falling significantly behind in learning at school

  • Difficulty in following instructions

  • Challenges in expressing own thoughts

  • Poor memory and trouble following direction

This assessment may be beneficial to:

  • Identify individual strengths and weaknesses in academic performance

  • Identify behavioural issues that impede a child’s learning

  • Assist in developing appropriate strategies and recommendations to better a child’s learning experience
